About Us
The National Capital Region Rifle Association (NCRRA) is a multi-discipline shooting organization dedicated to the development and maintenance of marksmanship skills.
The NCRRA is an outgrowth of the National Defence Headquarters Rifle Association (NDHQRA). The NDHQRA was formed after the turn of the century and was reorganized after World War II by a small group of dedicated military and civilian shooters.
Today, the NCRRA is one of the largest shooting groups in Eastern Canada. Our home range is the Connaught Range and Primary Training Centre in Ottawa, ON.
NCRRA comprises four basic discipline groups: Target Rifle, Service Conditions, Pistol and Shotgun. Each Section has variations of its primary discipline.
The Target Rifle Section is made up of male and female shooters who range from teenager to octogenarian with skill levels from novice to world class competitor. Advanced marksmanship skills combined with modern, single shot, bolt action target rifles in .308 calibre are used successfully at ranges from 300 to 900 meters from the prone position. F Class rifle which has fewer limitations with respect to calibre, sights, trigger weight, support, etc., is growing in popularity. On a more historic level, our small but avid group of blackpowder shooters maintains the high ideals and traditions practiced by earlier generations of long range marksmen. Blending modern barrels and actions in original blackpowder calibres, they combine meticulous reloading with skilled marksmanship to achieve surprising results and considerable smoke.
The Service Conditions Section includes modern and vintage versions of military rifles and service pistols. The members of this section are normally quite relaxed during their training sessions, trying to get the optimum accuracy out of some interesting relics. However, the serious ones also train for and participate in the civilian segment of the Canadian Forces Small Arms Competition and have traditionally done very well. Shooting with this group at the shorter ranges, we also have the occasional hunter who brings out his favourite hunting rifle to prove what it can do.
The Pistol Section comprises members who are interested in the standard ISSF type practice, IPSC, North American 2600, Air Pistol, Free Pistol, and even blackpowder pistol.
The Shotgun Section is a vibrant and active part of NCRRA. Its members valiantly shoot year round except on Christmas Day.
